How office affects the voter
County Commissioners/Supervisors, also known as the County Board approve the budgets of every county office, including those of the elected officials. That means they have significant say in how tax dollars are spent. They decide who will be awarded a contract for county services.
Duties and Responsibilities
---Budgeting, policymaking and legislative authority, passing resolutions, ---Chairing and appointing committees, ---Hire and fire the county administrator, ---Responsible for the judicial system, ---Responsible for Health and General Assistance, ---A part of the appeal process for valuations (The County Board is also The Board of Equalization and Geographic Information Systems), ---Purchase, lease, or lease with option to buy and/or sell needed real estate - with limitations. The cities within the County operate within specific geographic boundaries and are responsible to provide for their citizens including police, fire and emergency services, parks and recreation, and infrastructure like streets and sewers, as well as planning and zoning in areas just beyond their city limits. (These areas are known as extraterritorial jurisdictions.) The city has limited authority within the geographic boundary. A county’s authority is given to it by the state legislature and is more limited than the authority of a city. An example would be in ordinance authority.

Requirements for the position
Must be a registered voter. Must be a resident of their respective district for at least six (6) months immediately prior to the date on which they are required to file as a candidate for office.
Other information
A board member must be able to collaborate but also maintain representing his/her specific area of the County. He/She should be willing to devote many hours to carefully listening to needs of citizens and cooperating with city officials where needed.
