Job Description

How office affects the voter

The Clerk's office manages marriage licenses, handicap permits, liquor/tobacco/locksmith licenses, military discharge DD214s, passport applications and photos, the Document Management Records Center and Sanitary Improvement District (S.I.D.) general filings.

Duties and Responsibilities

In addition to the direct contact with the public noted above, the Clerk keeps the minutes and records of the County Board of Commissioners/Supervisors. Manages the County Payroll. Keeps records of any claims made against the County, and any warrants ordered by the county board, as well as bonds and even records of roads being established. Faithfully adheres to the statutory duties. Cooperates with fellow County Offices and Departments. In Sarpy County, the Clerk also serves as Register of Deeds. In large counties, the County Clerk serves as ex officio comptroller.

Candidates are nominated by their party in a primary election.

When election is held

Every four years along with state officers.
