The County Treasurer handles most revenue received for the county and remits taxes based upon taxing entities' levies for some of the revenue for the city of Omaha, affected school districts and the state of Nebraska. It also invests county revenue for the county. The treasurer's office is often confused with and incorrectly called the DMV. The treasurer's office does not test or issue drivers' licenses.

Duties and Responsibilities

The County Treasurer manages and collects vehicle titling and registration fees for motor vehicles. The office also collects personal and real estate taxes for the county and remits the taxes based upon the affected taxing levies. Occupancy taxes and food permits are also collected and remitted to the city. Inheritance taxes are collected from estates and deposited for the county.

Senior management experience is vital. Knowledge of personnel laws and statutes. The ability to read and understand state statutes affecting property taxes, motor vehicle titling and registration. The ability to understand the functions of federal, state and local governing bodies.

Term of office

Term of office is 4 years, with no term limits.

Partisan?

Candidates are nominated by their party in a primary election.

When election is held

Every four years along with state officers.
