How office affects the voter

Voters use bridges, roads, streets, even culverts under the roads and other public property improvements that start from the planning of the County Surveyor.

Duties and Responsibilities

County Surveyors work in counties with a population of less than 100,000. Essentially, they prepare plans, specifications, detail drawings for finding the right contractors for building bridges, culverts, public improvements on roads, etc. Then they must estimate the cost in dollars and materials needed for doing those plans. This information is provided to the County Board for approval. Once approved the County Surveyor is to superintend the planned construction. They are to appoint a professional engineer to serve as a deputy.

Requirements for the position

Must be a professional land surveyor and registered voter. Residency in the county is not required when applying to run but is required if the position is won.

Needs to be able to work together with the county board and have office management skills.

Term of office

Term of office is 4 years, with no term limits.

Partisan?

Candidates are nominated by their party in a primary election.

When election is held

Every four years along with state officers.
