Statewide oversight of education in Nebraska.
Responsible for allocating taxpayer dollars to fund public education.
In addition to current policies, supports policy for:
• Trauma training for teachers
• More teacher diversity in classroom and leadership roles
• School Finance and School Organization
• Workforce Development
• Accountability and Accreditation
• College, Career, and Civic Readiness
• Early Childhood Education
• Educator Preparation and Certification
Duties and Responsibilities
• Form policies, planning, and evaluation for the state school system
• Organize the State Department of Education
• Appoint a Commissioner who will also be the executive officer of the State Board.
• Provide supervision and consultation to schools
• Regulate school transportation
• Administer federally established education programs
