How office affects the voter

Voters use bridges, roads, streets, even culverts under the roads and other public property improvements that start from the planning of the County Engineer.

Duties and Responsibilities

County Engineers work in counties with more than 150,000 population. Essentially they prepare plans, specifications, detail drawings for finding the right contractors for building bridges, culverts, public improvements on roads, etc. Then they must estimate the cost in dollars and materials needed for doing those plans. This information is provided to the County Board for approval. Once approved the County Engineer is to superintend the planned construction. See more details in Douglas County. See also Sarpy County and Lancaster County. In those counties over 150,000 population, the County Engineer is required to appoint a full-time surveyor who is a professional land surveyor. In larger counties, the County Engineer supervises several departments to accomplish the assigned tasks, and certainly many personnel.
