Shall Section 1 of Legislative Bill 1402 be repealed?

(    )  Repeal

Our Explanation

The Nebraska Legislature recently passed an appropriations bill accompanied by LB 1420, which allocates $10 million from the general fund for tuition vouchers to give eligible students the opportunity to attend private schools. The organization Support Our Schools opposes this measure, preferring to preserve taxpayer funding for public schools.

 A vote of RETAIN means—

The voucher program passed by legislators in LB 1420 will stay in effect. Nebraska will allocate $10 million for tuition vouchers for eligible students to attend private schools. Students qualify based on low income, challenges such as bullying, or being a military family moving into the district.

A vote of REPEAL means—

  • The voucher program passed by legislators in LB 1420 will be struck down. The state will not provide tuition vouchers for students to attend private schools. State funding will be reserved for public schools.
